How do I place a reservation for one of your Reunion vacation rentals?
Once you find the home of your choice, there are two easy-to-follow ways to book your vacation with Home Destinations. You can choose to place the reservation inquiry online through our secure website 24/7, or call one of our Home Destinations representatives at 361-288-4704 from the USA or 415-152-0328 from Mexico.
When will I receive my Rental confirmation and arrival instructions?
Upon receiving your signed Rental Agreement and the first 50% payment of the rental rate and taxes by Home Destinations. Home Destinations will e-mail you a Rental confirmation which will include your rental property address, check-in instructions, and directions to get to your property for the duration of your stay.
When is High-Season, Standard-Season, Low-Season and define Holidays?
Mexico’s “High Season” (also known as Winter Season) begins in November and lasts until mid-April and then for the summer months of July and August. The ‘Standard Season’ take effect from mid-April until the end of June and then from September through mid-November. May is typically the lowest part of the season because it’s the hottest and driest time of the year in San Miguel.
Please note that a 20% holiday surcharge is added to all rental rates during Christmas, New Year’s, Semana Santa (the week before Easter), and Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). For more information regarding seasonal rates contact the team at Home Destinations.
Is there a minimum stay?
Normally a 7-night stay is required by most of our homes during High Season and the Holidays. During Low Season, the minimum may be 2 nights. Home Destinations will be glad to discuss rental requirement for the homes you are interested in.
What is your deposit and cancellation policy?
The non-refundable 50% down payment is required to confirm your reservation. The balance plus the security deposit is due 45 days prior to arrival.
A security deposit of $500 USD is required when your group does not include pets, small children or if the home is very basic. A $1,000 USD security deposit or higher is required for more luxurious rentals homes.
An additional security deposit of $500 to $1,000 USD is required depending on the home renting when your group includes pets, children or if the home includes a pool or Jacuzzi.
Where do I check in?
You may check-in directly at the rental home. We will have a client ambassador waiting to get you and give you a personal tour of the property and its features.
When is check-in and check-out?
Check-in time is after 2 p.m. and check-out is by 10 am CST. Early check-in and late check-outs may be available depending on occupancy. An additional fee may apply. Please contact us for further details.
Do I need to bring linens?
No. Each home provides its own cleaned sheets and towels for all our rental homes to use.
Do you provide paper products, soaps and other household supplies?
Yes. We offer a supply of paper towels, toilet paper, facial tissue, bath soap, shampoo, dish washing soap and laundry detergent.
Do the rental homes have washers and dryers?
All vacation homes that we manage include a washer and dryer. Laundry detergent is also provided.
Is housekeeping available?
Yes. Our high housekeeping standards ensure each vacation home is thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival and after your departure. We offer additional cleaning services during your stay, if pre-arranged, for an additional fee.
Can I bring my pet?
Our general policy is that pets are not allowed, but in some special cases some of our Owners will allow small well-behaved pets for an ADDITIONAL SECURITY DEPOSIT of $250 United States Dollars. Any agreement regarding pets shall be negotiated and paid for prior to your arrival. To avoid any inconvenience, please confirm that the home you are reserving is pet friendly. Pets are not allowed on the furniture or bedding at any time. Guest who violate this pet policy will be charged up to an additional $500, plus the expense of any necessary cleaning. Violations may result in immediate eviction and forfeiture of rent.
What’s the best way to get to San Miguel?
There are three main airports that most visitor use.
LEON/GUANAJUATO (airport code BJX)
Most visitors to San Miguel fly into Leon/Guanajuato Airport. The airport code is BJX, which stands for “el Bajio”, the name of our general region of Mexico, but most people simply refer to it as Leon Airport. Thanks to a new country highway, the trip from Leon Airport to San Miguel is now about one hour and 30 minutes. You can fly into Leon from Houston on Continental, from Dallas on American, from Chicago on Mexicana, from Los Angeles/San Jose/Oakland on Mexicana and sometimes AeroMexico. Or, if you are traveling from Southern California, you might consider crossing the border in San Diego and taking a domestic Mexican airline flight from Tijuana Airport to Leon.
QUERETARO (airport code QRO)
This is another popular airport and is the preferred airport for private jets, plus it does handle flights from Houston, Dallas, Chicago and Los Angeles. The following airlines provide service to QRO: AeroMexico, American Airlines, TAR, United, Volaris, and Viva aerobusl. The trip from Queretaro Airport to San Miguel is about an hour and 20 minutes.
MEXICO CITY (airport code is MEX).
You will find many more flight options and better airfares flying into Mexico City. Many visitors spend a day or two in the Mexican capital before or after their trip to San Miguel, so they can climb the pyramids at Teotihuacan, tour the Centro Historico or enjoy the fine restaurants and museums, including Frida Kahlo’s house. Contact our con for tips regarding Mexico City hotels, restaurants and tour guides. The trip from Mexico City Airport is about 3.5 hours by car or 4+ hours on the bus.
Ground Transportation:
If you provide us with your flight info (arrival date and time, airline and flight number, plus number of guests arriving together), we can make all the arrangements for a private driver to pick you up at any of the three airports for transfer in a private vehicle straight to your vacation rental.
The driver can come in a sedan (holds up to 3 guests and limited luggage) or in a van (holds up to 7 guests and a lot of luggage). The driver will wait for you at the airport outside the customs area, holding a sign with your name on it. We will have given him directions in advance, so he will know how to get you to the front door of your rental house. About 30 minutes outside of San Miguel, he will call us on his cell phone, and then someone from our company will go to the house to greet you, show you around and personally hand off the house keys.
Some people prefer to take the bus. There is a shuttle service between Leon and San Miguel, which makes several stops en route. You also can take a first-class bus directly from the Mexico City Airport to the city of Queretaro (this is a three-hour ride), where you then can transfer to another bus or take a cab on to San Miguel (about another hour).
We do not recommend renting a car when coming to San Miguel, as there is extremely limited parking in town. Most rental houses do not have garages or parking spaces, so you would have to leave your rental car in a pay parking lot, most likely several blocks away from your house. Once in town, you will find that it is easy to walk everywhere…or you can take one of our local cabs or now Uber, which are plentiful and inexpensive, around $2.50 USD equivalent to go anywhere.
What to Pack/What to Wear:
San Miguel is very casual. Jeans, khakis and shorts are fine. Sportswear is acceptable in any restaurant, but it’s also OK to dress up a little bit (resort wear) at night. Nights can be cooler, so be sure to bring a jacket, sweater or shawl for the evenings.
The most important thing is to bring good walking shoes! Ladies, leave the heels at home. Make sure your shoes have a thick rubber or crepe sole – leather can be too slippery on the cobblestones and ancient stone-slab sidewalks.
San Miguel is located at an altitude of 6400 feet (almost 2000 meters) and at a latitude that is below the Tropic of Cancer. The sunlight can be very intense, even if the daytime temperature is not too hot. Be sure to bring a hat, dark glasses and good sunblock.
